The life and death of Luke Perry:
Fans were shocked at the early demise of this well-known television actor – which came less than a week after his equally shocking stroke!
He was born Coy Luther Perry III in Mansfield, Ohio. His dad was a steelworker and his mom, the former Ann Bennett, was a homemaker. His parents split up when little Coy was six and was raised in Fredericktown Ohio where he graduated high school.
He then moved to Los Angeles, to become an actor – working in asphalt paving and in a factory to earn some money. After over 250 unsuccessful auditions in New York, he started appearing in soap operas like “Loving” and “Another World.”
His career really hit stride with the popular TV series Beverly Hills 90210, when he became a teen idol…
…when he played the bad boy character Dylan McKay, the brooding son of a millionaire.
He said of that part: "I'm going to be linked with him until I die, but that's actually just fine. I created Dylan McKay. He's mine."
Although it was his most famous role, his career didn’t end there.
He had guest appearances on TV shows like Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Criminal Minds, Will & Grace and The Simpsons.
He appeared in Hollywood films like Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
And was a voice actor appearing in “Biker Mice from Mars”, “The Incredible Hulk”, “Horseman “and “Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm.”
And he made his way back to a starring role on TV in “Riverdale”, which was based on the Archie series of comic books. He played Archie’s dad, Fred Andrews
It was not immediately announced how the show would cover Luke’s passing.
Luke was engaged to Wendy Madison Bauer at the time of his death.
He was married to Rachel Sharp in 1993 and they divorced ten years later after two children Jack and Sophie. Jack became a pro wrestler known as Jungle Boy Nate Coy
Luke suffered a severe stroke on February 27, 2019 in his Sherman Oaks California home and was rushed to a nearby hospital. His condition deteriorated and less than a week later, he was gone at the age of 52.
